Caleb Minter: Young Heart, Old Soul

ATLANTA has been known as a transplant host for such amazing talent around the world. You have many well-known artists such as André 3000, Monica and T.I. who are originally from the peach state and then those such as the late Whitney Houston, India Arie and Ciara, all whom have become very successful over a course of hard work and determination after relocating to Georgia. So it’s not unusual to come across artists such as Caleb Minter along with others who performed this evening, just to name a few: Broadway Miller (@BroadwayMiller), Rolynne Anderson (@Rolynnethefirst), Chanel Teaboù (@ChanelTeabou) and J. Morris (@JustMorris). If you find yourself in downtown Atlanta on a third Wednesday of each month, make sure you swing on by Studio No.7 and check out Milk & Sizz’s Sound Board and support your musicians.

Nigel of Caribbean Smooth Ou Oui Premium Rum Liqueur

“OuOui!,” isn’t just a form of an expression anymore. No. “OuOui!,” is an upcoming taste of paradise, sealed within the curvy-shaped black glass with nothing but greatness inside. If you ever had the opportunity to meet the President of Caribbean Smooth, and get a sample, then you too would agree that this drink…excuse me, this Liqueur is the truth! It’s perfect thickness goes very well with ice-cubes if poured warm, but drink at your own risk! Its’ 40 proof will sneak up on you if you drink it too fast. “OuOui,” will definitely have you speaking French, so just be prepared. And men, trust me – this sexy drink right here can be paired with any of your favorite Vodkas. It is not solely for the women. (more…)

Abstract C.I.M. -“Follow Your Heart & Follow Your Pen”

Abstract C.I.M.

Abstract C.I.M is an influential Spoken Word Artist and speaker destined to bring back concepts of self-respect, the power of the universe, and the liberation of oneself through poetry.

Born and raised in Augusta, GA, she grew up writing many mature words that were defeated by a shy and quiet tongue. Spending more time examining the ways of the world instead of responding to them, it wasn’t until she competed in a Shakespeare Recitation Contest in 2009 that Abstract witnessed the strength of her voice and began to release all the understanding she’d gained thus far.

Following her purpose to “entertain, inspire, educate and minister” through her fearless and emotional performance, Abstract C.I.M has gone on to win local and national speech and poetry competitions like S.P.A.R.K, Poetry Out Loud, and various poetry slams around the Southeast in both English and Spanish. She has opened up for HBO Def Jam Poets such as Tamika “Georgia Me” Harper, performed with Queen Sheba and continues to perform at high schools and colleges unleashing the King and Queen in every listener.

She now resides in the heart of Atlanta, GA where she attends Georgia State University to advance her career of spoken word. It is there where Abstract C.I.M strives to put poetry in every corner of creation one poem, one person, one day at a time.

Abstract C.I.M. and Sabrina

A Chat with Abstract C.I.M

When Abstract first stepped in front of the Soulful Sessions audience, her small frame was beautifully outlined in a red ankle length dress with a high split. But she wanted it to be known through her pieces that she shared with everyone: Small packages come with large punches. As we walked down memory lane hand-in-hand, we quickly realized the relation to Abstract. We all at some point in time, experienced relationships we wish we could have removed from our memory. She taught us that it was okay because, at the end, she came out on top with a blessing she never saw coming. Abstract C.I.M. blessed our stage, with three lessons she learned from her past relationships and how at the end, she truly realized what it felt like to have that one person understand and be there for her. I had the opportunity to not only witness her talent in its rawest form but actually sit down and gain additional knowledge on who Abstract C.I.M. really was!

Me: What does your name stand for? How did you get it?

A: C.I.M. It stands for ‘Complicated In Meaning.’ Let me see if I can say that in an uncomplicated way. I truly, in a nutshell, I feel I can be a little complex. I’m really, really complicated. Sometimes, I can’t even define myself or understand myself and with my poetry, I use that to make meaning and make sense out of things. Abstract C.I.M.

Me: That makes sense, okay okay![laughing]

A: [laughing]

Me: What has been the most challenging part for you as a spoken word artist coming up?

A: I’ll say one of the hardest things is the fact that I want to do this full-time. The fact that I really want poetry to be a career for me and not just a hobby. That’s been one of the hardest things. It’s a mental challenge, I feel like I have to prove to other people that I can be successful at this and that I can do this full time more than  I’m trying to prove this to myself. So confidence can get in the way but you really have to have faith and know this is my purpose, this is what I’m supposed to do and I’m going to try and go as hard as I can regardless of the obstacles so I say that’s the hardest thing.

Me: Growing up, has your parents been supportive of your talent?

A: Both parents have been supportive of me since the age of two..since day one. My mother comes to any show that she can come to. My family is a very big support system and I appreciate them so much.

Me: That’s definitely good. Do you have any upcoming projects?

A: I do have EP number two coming out sometime during 2016. I don’t know exactly when but yes…I think that’s about it. A CD a year, that’s what I’m trying to do

Me: Where can they find your first EP?

A: You can get a hardcopy from www.AbstractCIM.com It will be available on digital stores as soon as possible but as far as right now it will be on my website.

Me: What advice would you have for anyone who wants to get into spoken word but they’re just not sure how to go about it, and they don’t have a support system?

A: Follow your heart and follow your pen, I would say if it’s truly your passion and that’s truly what you love to do, it doesn’t matter if you have a support system, it doesn’t matter about statistics..like, do you and do it hard. And that’s the best advice I could give someone.

Me: Thank You!!

A: Thank You
